Ritual
The remembering
One of the beautiful gifts of the base is that it shows us where we have not landed all the way into our lives, our bodies and on this earth.
Most of us have parts that are split off or have not chosen to be here, often induced by early childhood experiences of feeling alone or afraid.
Entering incarnation something alive inside us is waiting to be welcomed into the world, carrying gifts to share in creation. As we are neither seen nor recognised for what we hold inside, these parts often do not come into our life, they stay hovering above. This is when we begin to feel unsafe, when the world does not recognise nor welcomes the precious jewels that you guard at your core.
When we add experiences of life that were challenging, traumatic or created isolation and aloneness a part of us splits off from the world. We do not want to be here, a deep longing to return home arises. Can you feel this? Do you recognise parts inside you that want to return home?
The deeper truth is however that safety comes only when we choose to be here and to bring ourselves fully into our life.
The magic of our awareness is that we can weave new foundations of safety and belonging. We can rewrite stories of love and invite these parts to join us, all the way home to the now.
This ritual asks you to suspend the limitations of time, a perception that that encases our memories in solid form and to open the possibility of a new past. By bringing love into places in our past that were devoid of it, we can remember a new earth.
THE DETAILS
This ritual is powerful if shared with another person or people as together you can weave a new story. If you are alone either voicing your story over a candle, writing into a journal or even recording a video is a beautiful option.
Can you trace back through your life to a moment in time where you did not want to be here? Where you wanted to return home? Where some part of you left? What happened? What were the details of this experience? As you share this with yourself or another feel deeply the experience in your heart and body. Go back into it fully.
The next step is to create a new story, a new remembering.
If love was present at this time how would this story have been different?
Going deep into your imaginative self describe the new memory in a way that invokes joy and delight.
Who was with you? What did you do?
e.g. If you were hiding under your bed afraid, who was there with you? Perhaps your best friend was under the bed too and you found a secret door that led you to an underground room filled with your favourite sweets. Maybe the time you were sent outside someone was there waiting for you and together you had an incredible adventure.
The power of this ritual lies in your ability to go fully into the new energy of this memory, to feel the excitement and adventure. There are no limitations to magic and your imagination except you. Take yourself into your deepest delight, choose to know safety and holding in this moment of your past.
There is a guided recording journey to support this process or you may want to create your own.
Light a candle and perhaps create an altar or space that represents the moment in time or of your childhood.
Put on some music and begin to remember.
The remembering guided journey
The death letter
Our civilisation mostly avoids, denies and deflects death through a neurotic obsession with control and the need for ‘safety’.
We engage any means to harness predictability, stability and certainty and when this fails we consume like hungry caterpillars …. eating, numbing and attempting to purchase our existential anxieties away.
What sits underneath this collective scrambling for life assurance is the deep fear of the unknown, of change and a naïve hope that someone on this spinning globe has a ‘grasp on things’.
We so easily hand over the power of decision to external figures; leaders, politicians, scientists, priests, spiritual gurus and academics who pacify our fears through fleeting assurances, theories, predictions, traditions and technologies. We convince ourselves, surely somewhere in the world, someone must know what the hell is going on.
Our fear of death is held in the base and if we do not turn to meet this loyal companion we are living in denial of the only thing that is certain; that we will die.
Collectively we are afraid of the dark, the chaos of the unknown and of not existing yet at the same time we deeply long for this experience. When we can turn towards our ending, the decline of our formed existence, our identity and constructed life; the dark enters.
“It's not success, it's not growth, it's not happiness. It's death. That's the cradle of your love of life; the fact that it ends”. ~ Stephen Jenkinson
THE DETAILS
Light a candle, put on the playlist, have a notebook and pen with you and sit quietly.
In this ritual you are invited to write a death letter to your closest loved ones (you can also record a video if this feels more alive) as if you are about to die. This letter is an outpouring of what truly lives in your heart as you let go of life.
You might want to include the following questions;
What mattered to you in life?
What would you have changed?
If you could bestow any advice to yourself or others from this death portal what would it be?
The power lies in this ritual if you truly feel the ending of your life and the realisation that this existence will never again return, you will never walk as this person and experience those around you as you do now. Feel the absolute uniqueness of this constructed life which can never be the same again once death comes. This is actually the truth of your reality, you are going to have to say goodbye to this life forever, the form never returns.
At the end of the letter you can also include a WILL.
Where will your possessions go? Include everything.
Approach this as your final act, truly feel the end and meet whatever moves through you as you face the reality that you are now leaving this world.
Until we can let go of everything we are not truly free.
